This finance agency uses IBM Business Process Manager (IBPM) as a platform for implementing business process management for several business sectors. The platform is mainly used for Pre-Bankruptcy Settlements, in which a registry office, an archive center, coordinators and a settlement council participate. IBPM is, from a technical perspective, the executive server with an integration of the business process and the user interface. It is exactly that integration that is a desirable factor for speeding up applications for business process support.
Using state-of-the-art technology is most definitely one of the reasons for updating software. The second reason, equally as important, is the fact that a timely upgrade removes the risk of using the old software version for which support is no longer available. On the other hand, the aim of a migration is almost always the same – to have a functional environment for the chosen version of IBM BPM.
The most important and most demanding part of migrating IBM BPM solutions is planning. The migration almost always involves coordinated work of a larger group of people. While planning the migration, each environment requires two subsequent actions. The first one, the so-called dry run migration, is carried out in isolation in regard to the existing environment so that migration and testing do not influence regular work. When the dry run confirms the correctness of the procedure, the second phase is planned – the so-called cut over. The cut over must be planned at a certain time because the system will not be available. It is also necessary to put aside enough time to track the system behavior before the most critical environment is migrated – the production one.
On the topic of cooperating with CROZ, the Director of the Development Department Dario Belić added: “We have included FINA’s experts from multiple fields in the migration process: system engineers, application server administrators, database administrators, architects. CROZ’s experts fit in well and worked closely with FINA’s. Thanks to CROZ’s involvement we have gained expertise and assurance that the migration will be painless.”
With the migration to z/Linux, the user gains a more reliable and a more stable system. Furthermore, z/Linux enables a flexibility of creating IBPM environments according to the needs of FINA’s development process.
