VMware Workshop: Exit Strategy & Alternative Platforms

VMware Exit Strategy & Alternatives: OpenShift Virtualization, Nutanix, Soverign Clouds & More

Overview

Learn how to transition from VMware to modern virtualization or container-native solutions. Evaluate Nutanix AHV, OpenShift Virtualization, and other viable alternatives to reduce licensing costs, simplify operations, and enhance sovereignty and cloud portability.

What will you learn:
Compare hypervisor-based and container-based virtualization approaches. Assess Nutanix AHV, OpenShift Virtualization, and other strategic alternatives. Plan and execute a phased, low-disruption migration from VMware. Understand cost, performance, and operational trade-offs. Incorporate sovereignty requirements into platform and cloud selection. Explore migration paths to sovereign or regulated cloud environments.

VMware Workshop Introduction

This course provides a strategic roadmap for organizations seeking to reduce or eliminate their dependency on VMware infrastructure. Participants will explore leading alternative platforms such as Nutanix (a hyperconverged infrastructure solution with an enterprise-grade AHV hypervisor) and OpenShift Virtualization (enabling virtual machines to run alongside containers on Red Hat OpenShift).

The course includes cost modeling, performance and operational comparisons, as well as best practices for migration planning. Participants will also understand how platform choice can support digital sovereignty goals, including the potential migration to European and national sovereign cloud providers.

Through hands-on guidance and strategic insights, attendees will learn how to plan and execute a smooth transition while maintaining business continuity and optimizing long-term infrastructure strategy.

Who Should Attend?

  • IT leaders, architects, and decision-makers evaluating a VMware migration or consolidation strategy.
  • Infrastructure engineers and system administrators responsible for virtualization of migration.
  • Financial, procurement, and operations stakeholders aiming to optimize costs and future-proof infrastructure investments.
  • Organizations with sovereignty mandates or interest in sovereign cloud adoption.

Prerequisite Knowledge

  • Familiarity with VMware vSphere, ESXi, or related VMware products
  • Understanding of virtualization concepts (hosts, clusters, storage)
  • General knowledge of alternative hypervisors (e.g., Nutanix AHV) or container-based virtualization (OpenShift Virtualization), and general cloud fundamentals.
