Size matters!
Discussing microservice size is like discussing whether eggs are good for you. Ten people will give you thirteen opinions.
But just as we have seen tides turn several times over the years when it comes to eggs being healthy, the same thing is happening these days with microservice size. Organizations are bouncing between extremes: from monoliths to super granular microservices, and almost back.
In their quest for optimal microservice size, organizations can make use of some guidelines. Take a look at how Uber is handling this issue and how organizations can approach slicing their services.
Riding with the King
Patrick Kua is former CTO and Chief Scientist at N26, former Technical Principal Consultant at ThoughtWorks and a book author. His experience in building complex systems and organizations puts him among top people on my interview bucket list! And if it weren’t for COVID-19, we would have met this year on our annual QED conference where Patrick was announced as our keynote speaker… but we all know how this one played out. Nevertheless, I chatted with Patrick on some of these topics and I really hope to meet him in person soon.
—“Riding with the Queen/King” is our series featuring short interviews with super interesting people from the field of technology.
