On November 27, 2024, our team at CROZ DACH embraced the outdoors during our semi-annual Corporate Volunteering Day. We focused on moorland conservation near Strachlach-Dingharting, south of Munich. Partnering with the Bund Naturschutz, we contributed to preserving this unique ecosystem, which plays a vital role in climate protection.
The day was not only a physical challenge but also a mental enrichment. Guided by a knowledgeable supervisor from the Bund Naturschutz, we gained insights into the importance of moorlands and their historical connection to the former Isar glacier. Did you know that intact moors can store immense amounts of CO₂ while serving as habitats for rare plants and animals?
Preserving the Moorland Ecosystem
Equipped with rubber boots, loppers, and hedge trimmers, we tackled overgrown hedges and small trees to protect the moorland from transitioning into woodland. This critical measure helps maintain the moor’s ecological balance, ensuring its long-term viability as a carbon sink and biodiversity haven.
The weather was on our side, with sunny skies and mild temperatures boosting our motivation. Teamwork thrived, and even our four-legged companions added to the day’s joy. A well-deserved picnic under the sun re-energized us, allowing us to continue working enthusiastically until the early afternoon.
Tangible Volounteering Results and Lasting Impact
By the end of the day, the visible transformation of the moorland filled us with pride. The landscape was noticeably more open, a testament to our collective efforts. Although we felt the physical toll the following day, the satisfaction of making a positive environmental impact and bonding as a team far outweighed the soreness.
We can’t wait to return next year, ready to roll up our sleeves again for the environment. Volunteering together strengthens our team while contributing to a healthier planet.
